Stationary Waves by Laplace's Force

The amplified alternate current flows through the bar. Part of the bar is in the magnetic field. As a result, the bar oscillates.

Apparatus description: The apparatus consistsof a bronze bar 1.20 m long, fixed on one end and free on the other, a generator of low frequencies, a 250 W amplifier and a permanent magnet.

The amplified alternate current flows through the bar. Part of the bar is in the magnetic field. As a result, the bar oscillates at the frequency of the generator and transverse waves travel along the bar and, together with the reflected waves at the free end, create stationary waves of the wavelength λ/4 , 3λ/4 , 5λ/4 etc.
